About me
Hola!
I’m a simple Belgian, I like beers and *Belgian* fries but not only! I’ve always wanted to study animals and nature in general since I was a kid.
During my bachelor in Biology at the Université libre de Brussels, I developed a strong passion for entomology; trying to build the best insect display possible while also using iNaturalist all the time during COVID19. Then during my master in Biology of Organisms and Ecology, at the same university, I had the opportunity to really dive into ecology.
Indeed, my master thesis was about the impacts of a forest edge on termite communities in French Guiana, with professor Yves Roisin. That’s when I fell in love with tropical forests’ biodiversity and ecology. I was then offered, by Denis Fournier, to continue research by doing a PhD in the same lab (Evolutionary Biology and Ecology).
Initially, it was supposed to be about the impacts of urbanization on termites but fieldwork being what it is; things did not go quite as planned! Research permits delay gave me extra time to dip a toe into macroecology by doing species distribution modeling on invasive termites. Long story short, my multiple macroecological side projects (termites, bark beetles, sea turtles) ended up being the main subject of my thesis: “Forecasting biodiversity under pressure: species distribution modeling of ecosystem engineers, pests, and bioindicators in the Anthropocene”. I held my public viva on the 15th of December 2025.
Despite having acquired extensive skills in modeling, working in tropical forests remains my true passion. My life goal would be dedicating my work to safeguarding tropical ecosystems and their incredible biodiversity.
