Design
These are designs created during my PhD thesis. Most ideas were imagined with my mom and I, original drawings were made by my mom and the digitization process was done by me with Photoshop. A good teamwork for nice results! This page serves as a showcase for her amazing work.
Please, if you want to use any pictures, acknowledge the authors (it’s written under each picture).
Macroecology-related

MacroED – This is my new logo! It represents my interest for macroecology and global change. You can see the Earth burning from Antarctica and tropical forests being cut down. A termite, my first organism of study, is shown in Canada as temperature increases. A sad sea turtle is in the middle of the ocean, not knowing where to lay its eggs anymore. A jaguar is running for its life towards the North as we destroy tropical forests and a bird is trying to completely leave the Earth. Nonetheless, the logo is full of colors as we need to keep hoping for the best. My new love for Colombia is shown through its exact #Hex flag colors in the jaguar, the bird and the largest flame.

Termite-related

Terre-Meet – Pun easier to understand in French “terre” meaning “earth” or “soil”. This design tries to give the idea of termites creating the opportunity to meet people of all around the Earth. Here the termite is based on a Macrotermes. This design was meant for conferences.

Nasutitermes & Guns – Pun coming from the fact that Nasutitermes species can shoot chemicals from their “nose”. This design tries to embrace peace by emphasizing the nonsense of having guns. Here the termite is based on Nasutitermes corniger. This design was meant for conferences.

Heterotermes Threat – This design combines three elements: a very urbanized city on the left, a wheat field and a soldier of Heterotermes tenuis, a major pest in agriculture. It’s purely descriptive with no puns as this design was meant for presenting a paper at a conference on the potential impacts of the genus Heterotermes on crops and cities.

Termitator – This design was selected for a beer design project, for the brewery iLLeGaaL, in Brussels, Belgium. It represents a termite, a giant Nasutitermes, shooting lasers and burning cities. It represents the antagony of what us humans are doing to the world; we are burning forests, completely destroying biodiversity. Here, the termite does the same to us, finally bringing justice to Earth. The beer is an IPA, 7.4% strong. If you have the chance to buy one, please do! And also, they made an error on the can, the artist being stated as the uploader of the designs (for an association) instead of writing my mom’s name. Such a shame!

Nasutitermes against capitalism – This is not actually a design but rather a painting made by my brother! It captures the mythical scene from King Kong in New York. Here, it’s actually a termite, a Nasutitermes, climbing the Empire State Building. It’s fighting against capitalism and all its issues. The revolt is here coming from biodiversity itselfs.
